Recent Awards

2010 – The Literacy Imperative’s President/CEO received “Citizen of the Year” Award from State of Tennessee M.W. Prince Hall Grand Lodge, F&A Masons in recognition of the achievements of the organizations effort to provide books and other tools of literacy to underserved communities..

2009 – – The Literacy Imperative received “Faith Partner Recognition” letter from Knoxville Habitat for Humanity (Affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International) for the Family Library Project which provides beginning libraries for homes of Habitat families.

2009 – The Literacy Imperative received “Community Service” award 100 Black Men of Greater Knoxville (Affiliate of 100 Black Men of America, Inc.) in recognition of the achievements of the organization efforts to provide books and other tools of literacy to underserved communities.

2008 – The Literacy Imperative’s President/CEO received “University of Tennessee Community Service Citation” for extraordinary service to the university in recognition of the organization’s support for the Black Culture Center and providing community service opportunities for university students.

Recent Achievements

2010 – The Literacy Imperative entered into a Family Library™ Project agreement with Appalachia Service Project to provide beginning libraries to homes of low-income families in the states of Tennessee, Kentucky, Virginia, and West Virginia.

2009 – The Literacy Imperative entered into an agreement under which its Center of Literacy & Enterprise™ prototype is provided access to a Starbucks sponsored café/coffee shop which provides job-training and leadership development program for at-risk youth.
